Source-first map setup

← What's newdata sourcesfor administrators

A map in Groundwork is a connection to one data source plus the configuration layered on top, and creating one now says so. Name the map, and Groundwork asks what to connect it to, with a row per source: cloud storage, WFS, QGIS Server, STAC, OpenStreetMap and GeoJSON.

Complete a source row and the map is created. Close the dialog before choosing one and the map is discarded. It is never left half-made, and Groundwork asks first if you have already added a background layer. A source still loading when you close it is dropped, so it cannot turn up later in a map you abandoned.

The Demo map tick box sits here too. A demo map resets every time the page loads, shows the editing tools to everyone, and keeps every edit on the device it was made on.

How to try it

  1. Click the map name at the top of the panel and choose Create new map.
  2. Name it and press Add.
  3. Pick a source, or close the dialog and confirm the discard.

Connecting a data source in the Administrator Guide covers this in full.
