Simple style symbols

← What's newappearance

Simple, the plain single-colour style on a layer’s Style row, now opens a dialog when you choose it. A point layer picks a shape, circle, square or triangle, and a colour. A line or area layer picks a colour and either its own shape or one of those same point shapes, drawn at a point on the feature: the middle of a line, or a point picked to fall inside an area.

Each pick applies to the map as you make it. Editing a feature always shows its own outline while the edit is in progress, whichever symbol is chosen.

The Simple row on the menu shows the layer’s own symbol in the colour and shape it draws with, so you can see what choosing it would give you.

How to try it

  1. Open a layer’s menu and choose Style.
  2. Pick Simple.
  3. Choose a shape and a colour, then press Done.

Exploring features in the User Guide covers this in full.
