Required start location
Require a location to start changes what a link opens on. Left off, it opens on the map with your layers showing. Ticked, it opens on a dimmed map with a large location box and three ways to answer it: type an address, click on the map, or use the device’s location. The panel and the layers appear once one is set.
This suits a map where the useful answer depends on where the person is: what a council does at this address, or the nearest few of something. Show the map anyway skips it, so a device that refuses to share its location is never a dead end.
The tick asks for the location and nothing more. To open on the closest features, set a location yourself and press Nearby before copying the link. The tick gets the location, Nearby spends it.
How to try it
- Press Share in the settings menu and tick Require a location to start.
- Open the link in a private browsing window.
- Answer the location box, or press Show the map anyway.
Sharing your map in the Administrator Guide covers this in full.
