Required sign-in
Require sign-in to open is now the single control over what a recipient can do. Left off, the link opens for anyone who has it and the map is view-only, allowing browse, search, filter and download, with no editing tools. Ticked, each recipient signs in with Dropbox or Microsoft before the map opens, and gets the editing tools once they have.
The tick is a signpost. It sits inside the link, so it cannot be relied on to keep anyone out. Real access control belongs to the data source. A private cloud folder refuses unauthorised reads on its own, and a public endpoint stays publicly reachable whatever the tick says.
How to try it
- Press Share in the settings menu and tick Require sign-in to open.
- Copy the link and open it in a private browsing window.
- Untick it, copy a fresh link, and compare: the editing tools are absent.
Sharing your map in the Administrator Guide covers this in full.
