Line and area measurements

← What's newediting

Line and area layers have a Show measurements option in the layer menu. Switch it on and selecting a feature labels each straight stretch with its length, plus the total length for a multi-part line, or the area and perimeter for a shape.

The labels update live as you draw or reshape a feature, so you can watch a boundary’s area change as you drag a corner, and they disappear when nothing is selected.

The setting is per layer, so a map can measure its parcels without labelling its roads.

How to try it

  1. Switch to a line or area layer and open its menu.
  2. Turn on Show measurements.
  3. Select a feature, then press Update and drag a corner to watch the figures change.

Capturing and editing features in the User Guide covers this in full.
