GeoParquet joins GeoJSON as a format Groundwork reads straight from a cloud folder, and it’s now one of the formats selectable from an external STAC catalogue too. A GeoParquet layer behaves like any other for your team, who can search, filter, sort and inspect every feature.

It’s read-only. Groundwork saves changes as GeoJSON, so it can’t write back to a .parquet file: anyone who tries to edit one is told so and offered the change as a download instead. Use GeoJSON for any layer your team needs to capture into.

How to try it

  1. Save data as GeoParquet alongside your QGIS project, or add a GeoParquet collection from a STAC catalogue.
  2. Publish the folder, or connect the catalogue, as you would any other source.
  3. Open the map: the layer loads and lists its features, with editing turned off.
