FlatGeobuf layers

← What's newdata sourcesfor administrators

Groundwork now reads FlatGeobuf into a layer, as it reads GeoJSON and GeoParquet. It reads a .fgb file in a cloud folder, with or without a QGIS project. It also reads one from a layer in a QGIS project, from a GitHub repository, or from a collection in a STAC catalogue. The layer shows a padlock, and you cannot edit it. Use GeoJSON for any layer that your team captures data into.

Give the layer a scale range in its QGIS project, and save the file with a spatial index. Groundwork then loads only the features in view, and loads more as the map moves. A spinner turns in the feature count while the features load. Until the whole layer has loaded, the layer menu shows Download loaded features.

Groundwork does not load a FlatGeobuf file that does not record its coordinate system.

How to try it

  1. Save a .fgb file beside your QGIS project, or in a cloud folder.
  2. Publish the folder as you do any other folder.
  3. Open the map. The layer loads with a padlock beside its name.

Prepare data in QGIS in the Administrator Guide covers this in full.
