Feature labels on the map
Hovering a feature on the map, or its row in the list, shows that feature’s label above it, joined by a line down onto the feature. The line meets the outline drawn around every feature, so the two read as one shape.
On a line it comes down to the point you arrived at; on an area, to a point inside it. That matters on a bent line or a U-shaped area, where the middle of the ground a feature spans is not on the feature at all.
Near the top of the view the label flips below the feature, and near an edge it slides sideways instead of running past. It stays anchored as the map moves. Touch devices have no hover, so no label appears.
How to try it
- Hover a feature on the map.
- Hover a row in the feature list instead.
- Pan the map and watch the label stay on its feature.
