A collapsed location box

← What's newsearch and navigation

Until you set a location the box rests as a short bar of three buttons across the top of the map, for search, picking a point and using your device’s position, so it takes as little of the map as it can. Press the magnifying glass and it opens into a search field. Settings has a Location box → Classic option if you would rather it always showed the field.

The cursor button is new: press it and the pointer becomes a crosshair, then click anywhere to drop the pin there, named with that spot’s nearest address.

Once a location is set the box shows the place on one line and its suburb and state below it, and becomes a button that returns the map to the pin. Pan until the pin is off screen and a small arrow appears below the blue dot pointing the way back to it.

How to try it

  1. Press the cursor button, then click the map.
  2. Pan until the pin leaves the screen and watch for the arrow.
  3. Click the location text to return to the pin.

Opening a map in the User Guide covers this in full.
