Automatic travel mode

← What's newsearch and navigation

Automatic is now what Nearby does by default. It measures walking, cycling and driving together and ranks the five closest by whichever suits the trip: walking when something is within a comfortable walk, driving otherwise.

Each result shows all the distances side by side, with the shortest of the five picked out in green for each way of travelling. The best walk and the best drive are not always the same feature, because a short drive can still be a long walk.

Click any of the four distances to draw that route on the map; the one showing is outlined, and its takes it off again. You can also route to any feature. It does not have to be one of the five nearest. Open it and use the route button beside the bookmark at the top of its details.

How to try it

  1. Set a location in the location box, then press Nearby.
  2. Read across a result: walking, cycling and driving distances sit side by side.
  3. Click one of them to draw that route on the map.

Exploring features in the User Guide covers this in full.
