Every dataset deserves a custodian
A custodian is the person who knows a dataset best and is trusted to keep it right. Groundwork makes your staff the custodians of the data they work with. Groundwork saves each change straight to your organisation's live data. To let editors save to a Dropbox folder, share it privately with each of them, give them edit access, and set the map's Sharing to Sign in to edit. If your team keeps records about places, you can publish them as a Groundwork map.
Asset and infrastructure defects
A crew finds a cracked footpath and logs it on the spot from a phone. Back at the office, you can zoom the map to it and send a contractor a link, and they see the map at that spot.
Parks, trees and open space
The arborist updates a tree's record while inspecting it. Everyone who opens the register after that sees the change.
Environmental monitoring
On a site visit, environmental officers map what they find: weed outbreaks, revegetation plots and watercourse condition. The rest of the team sees each new record the next time they open the map.
Planning and development
Planners record a heritage detail or the state of a development site while they're there. The office sees it on the same map.
Public health and compliance
Compliance work is a list of places: food-premises checks, pool barriers, septic systems. Groundwork shows that list on a map. An officer can set a location and see the closest places to it by real travel distance, then work through the area from there.
Emergency management
Put sandbag points, evacuation centres and flood markers in a publicly shared Dropbox folder, and send the public a view-only link. Nobody needs an account to open it. When you update the map, everyone who reopens the link sees the change.
Waste and amenity
Compliance and waste teams log illegal dumping, graffiti and litter on the map, at the place they find them.
Community and cultural assets
Public art, memorials and heritage sites have stories as well as coordinates. Put a map of them in a publicly shared folder, and send the community a view-only link.
Cemetery management
Plots and interment records have to be exactly right. Search for a name to find the plot on the map.
And the one-off maps
An event footprint or a temporary road closure is data too. Publish it the same way, share it as a link, and take it down when the event is over.
