Groundwork builds a map your whole organisation can keep up to date, on QGIS and the cloud storage you already use.
Connect the data you already have
Groundwork reads the sources your team already publishes to, with no migration and no new database. The QGIS path in full is on Straight from QGIS.
QGIS projects
Layers load with their symbology, field aliases, display fields, draw order and saved view intact. There is no second setup to keep in step.
WFS and QGIS Server
Load layers from the services your organisation publishes, including Esri-hosted WFS.
Dropbox, OneDrive and SharePoint
Sign in and browse to the folder your team already works in.
GeoJSON, GeoParquet and raster files
Publish any of them to a cloud folder. GeoJSON picks up its matching style; GeoParquet and GeoTIFF load as read-only layers.
External STAC catalogues
Pick the collections you need from a published catalogue, or the items filed inside one. GeoJSON, GeoParquet, PMTiles, COG and WFS are each read the way that format works best.
Capture and edit
The people who know the ground make the change themselves, and it is saved to your live data. See In the field.
Drawing and reshaping
Draw new features and adjust existing ones directly on the map.
Direct writes to your source
Full WFS transaction support, so there is no copy of the data to keep in sync.
Copy and paste
Copy a feature and paste it back where it was or somewhere new, straight from your system clipboard.
Live updates across the team
On a shared folder, a teammate's save appears on everyone else's open map in a second or two.
Records attached to a feature
The inspections on a tree or the jobs done to it open as tabs on that feature's details, and your team adds and edits them there.
Photos on a record
A record shows its photo above its fields, and the feature's own card shows the one from its most recent record.
Live measurements
Label a line's length or a shape's area and perimeter, updating live while you draw or reshape it.
Access control per link
Choose whether a link opens for anyone as view-only, or asks for sign-in and lets them edit. See Data & trust.

Find what you're looking for
Search and filtering
Search across a feature's attributes and the records attached to it, filter a layer down to what matters, and read every field in a side panel.
Travel-distance sorting
Order features by real travel distance from a searched address, with walking, cycling and driving measured together, then draw the route to the one you pick.
Bookmarks
Bookmark a feature and it gets a badge on the map, narrows the list to just your bookmarks, and stays in the nearest results.
Orientation tools
A collapsible legend, location search, a scale bar, style icons per feature, metric or US units, and light, dark and Broadsheet themes.
Maps that look right
Your layers draw the way you published them, with no re-styling for the web.
Your published symbology
Styling comes straight from your WFS/WMS server, so features look the same as in the maps you already publish.
QGIS styling
Symbology, marker sizes and labels defined in QGIS Desktop render faithfully in the browser, down to label fonts, colours and halos.
Flexible background layers
Vector styles, tile templates and aerial imagery with street names on top, drawn light or dark to match the app. A shared map opens on the one you chose.
Layer styling
Switch between a layer's published styles, set its own shape and colour, or colour every value in one of its fields.
Handing the map over
Your team gets the map as a link. They click it and start work, with nothing to install and nothing for them to set up.
Share links
It opens with your layers, filters, sort order and starting area already set.
Updatable links
It updates the copy they already have instead of adding a second one, and if they renamed it, they still see their name for it.
Live data on every open
A map reads its source every time it opens, so changed data needs no new link. Send one when the setup changes.
Single-feature links
Send someone straight to the tree, the defect or the site you are talking about, with the map framed on it.
Required start location
A link can ask whoever opens it for their location first, so the map answers a question about that address.
Open standards

Try it on your own data
The app is free to use with a Dropbox or OneDrive folder. If you need SharePoint, live WFS servers or Microsoft sign-in, that's the Teams plan.
