Try a demo map
A demo map is the place to try Groundwork before you open a real one. Its editing tools are all switched on, every edit is saved on your device only, and it starts fresh whenever the page loads. Five minutes in it covers most of what you’ll do in a real map.
Open Groundwork
Open app.groundwork.do. If Groundwork shows a page of cards for opening a map, click Parks and recreation; otherwise, if the map name at the top of the panel is not Parks and recreation, click it and choose Parks and recreation.
The map shows a small invented foreshore reserve, and the panel beside it lists its 16 Park assets: playgrounds, seats, barbecues and the rest.
Open a feature
Click Foreshore playground in the list, or click any point on the map. The feature is highlighted on the map and its details open in the panel. The back arrow at the top returns you to the list.
Search and filter
Press the search button above the list and type playground. The playgrounds appear as results while you type; click one to open it.
Now press the filter button, choose Asset type, and tick Seat. The map and the list narrow to the seats, and the count reads 4 of 16. Clear the filter from the same panel.
Bookmark a feature
Click the bookmark button on any feature row and it fills in. Press the bookmark button above the list to show only what you’ve bookmarked, and press it again to return to the full list.
Make an edit
Open Jetty lookout seat and press Update. Its condition reads Poor; change it to Good and press the tick to save. The change is saved in this browser only, and nobody else can see it.
Start fresh
Reload the browser tab. The map loads from scratch: the seat is back to Poor and your bookmark is gone.
There is a second demo map, Urban forest: eighteen street trees in Surry Hills, with Inspections and Maintenance tabs beside each tree’s details. To open it, click the map name at the top of the panel, choose Create new map, and click its card on the page that opens. It then joins the list under the map name alongside this one.
