Quick fixes for the things that most often puzzle new users.
The link won’t open
Check you copied the whole link, and that it’s the cloud folder link your administrator sent (not a link to a single file). If Groundwork reports a problem with the folder itself — a missing project file, for example — that’s for your administrator to fix; the message will say what’s wrong, so pass it along.
I’m asked to sign in and it doesn’t work
Private folders only open for people invited to them. Make sure you’re signing in with the account the invitation was sent to — the Cloud storage card shows who you’re signed in as, and Switch account lets you change. If you were never invited, ask your administrator to share the folder with you.
My edits have disappeared
Edits are saved in your browser on the device where you made them. The usual reasons they seem to vanish:
- Different device or browser — until cloud saving arrives (coming soon), edits made on your phone won’t appear on your desktop. Use Download GeoJSON if you need to carry work across.
- You re-opened the folder link — that reloads the published version and replaces your local copy, including edits.
- A different map is active — check the breadcrumb; each map keeps its own layers.
I can’t see the edit or add controls
Check the right layer is active (the layer name at the top of the right-hand panel shows which), and that it isn’t hidden — a hidden layer’s feature list and edit controls are tucked away until you show it again. Also finish or cancel any drawing or editing already in progress; most other controls pause while one is active.
Features are missing from the list
A filter may be on — the count reads “N of M” when one is active. Open the filter panel and tick All, or check the search box is empty.
The map looks wrong or half-loaded
If a layer loaded with a warning, its data file may have a problem in the published folder — tell your administrator what the warning said. For anything that looks stuck, reloading the browser tab is safe: your edits are saved automatically and will still be there.
